I want Room for Pilates to be a welcoming place for as many people as possible. This page explains what to expect when you visit, and how we can work out together whether my one-to-one reformer sessions are right for you.

Finding the studio

My sessions take place in a private room at BFit at Millets Farm. You don't need to be a gym member to attend.
-
There is a free car park with plenty of spaces. I suggest parking near Webb's Garden Centre.
-
From the garden centre entrance, follow the "Wellness @Millets" signposted footpath towards the lake. The footpath is level, even block paving. It is fairly narrow, so please get in touch if you'd like to talk through the route.
-
The treatment houses are on the right-hand side of the path. BFit at Millets is the last one. The walk from the garden centre entrance takes less than a minute.

Getting here by bus

The X15 bus (Abingdon/Southmoor and Witney) runs into the Millets Farm grounds. Look for the stop called "Frilford, Millets Farm", near the front of the main shops, farm shop and garden centre, about a minute's walk from the main entrance area. The bus loops through the grounds, so services in both directions, towards Abingdon/Oxford and towards Witney, use the same stop. From there, head to the garden centre entrance and follow the footpath described above.

Getting in

-
The building has ramp access and a wide glass door, and the studio door can be seen from outside.
-
The studio is a small room, only big enough for one client and me. It isn't large enough to comfortably fit a wheelchair as well, or an additional person such as a carer. If you use a wheelchair, we can talk through whether the space would work for you before you book.
-
Please arrive on time but not too early, as the gym area can't be used as a waiting area. Come straight to the Pilates studio.

Timing

I leave 10 minutes between sessions to reset the studio, so please arrive on time rather than early. A session may occasionally run a few minutes over so we can finish an exercise safely. If you need extra time to get settled, to get on or off the machine, or to arrive, please let me know when we speak and we can plan for it.

Toilets

There is no toilet at the studio. The nearest toilets are in Webb's Garden Centre, near the playground, and a little further away at the mini golf. All of these have accessible toilets. I recommend using them before your session.

The sessions

All sessions are one-to-one on a tower machine, which I use either as a reformer or as a trapeze table, and sometimes both in the same session. I plan each session so there is as little time as possible spent changing the set-up, so you get the most from the time you've booked.

When used as a reformer, the seating and lying surface (the carriage) is low, 36cm from the floor, and I can steady it with the resistance springs so it doesn't move while you get on.
To get on, you sit down on the carriage, either on your own or with a little help from me, such as holding my hand or using a support stick. From sitting, you lie down onto your side, roll onto your back, and place your feet on the foot bar.

This means you need to be able to sit down on the machine, with or without a little assistance.
The full size of the Reformer machine:
length 242 cm; with 68 cm; carriage height from floor 36 cm

Is Pilates with me right for you?

Before your first session we'll have a conversation about your health, your goals and any access needs. I ask for health information to make sure sessions are safe for you.
Because the studio is small and I work on a single tower machine, there are some needs I'm not able to support. If I'm confident I can teach you safely, I'll adapt the session to suit you. If I can't, I'll tell you honestly and, where possible, point you towards an instructor or service who can help.
See the room first

If you'd like to see the studio before you commit, I'm happy to offer a short 5 to 10 minute visit, with no obligation to book. It's a good chance to look at the space and the machine and ask any questions. To arrange a visit, please email me at melinda@room-for-pilates.com.

Reasonable adjustments

I'm happy to discuss adjustments that would help you attend and take part safely, such as a steadied carriage, a hand or a support stick to help you get on and off the machine, and extra time where I can. If there's something that would help you that isn't listed here, please ask.

Get in touch

All appointments, including first conversations and room visits, are arranged by email. If you have any questions before booking, or you'd like to talk through your access needs, please email info@room-for-pilates.com. I'm also glad to hear feedback on how I can make things more accessible.Â
